ACC wraps up the NWMC 2023 with Magna Carta of Women Symposium, Runway Show

In line with the 2023 National Observance of Women’s Month, Abuyog Community College (ACC) through the Gender and Development (GAD) Office, Guidance and Counseling (GAC) office, together with the active involvement of the Supreme Student Council (SSC) wrapped up the month-long celebration with a symposium on Magna Carta of Women and Runway show on, March 30, held at the ACC campus.

At around 1:00 pm, the Magna Carta of Women Symposium was conducted with invited resource speaker, Atty. Yzabel Eden M. Bertumin- Lerios, a private practice lawyer who tackled the tenets of the Magna Carta for Women (MCW) or known as Republic Act 9710 at the Business Incubation Facility.

“The Magna Carta of women is a comprehensive women’s human rights law, that seeks to eliminate discrimination against women by recognizing, protecting, fulfilling and promoting the rights of Filipino women, especially those in the marginalized sectors.”, Atty. Lerios said in her talk.

She also mentioned that The Magna Carta of Women promote empowerment of women and pursue the equal opportunities for women and men.

During the symposium, an open forum was provided to let the faculty participants ask questions regarding issues and misconceptions about women and gender equality.

Moreover, the culminating activity continues with the 2023 Runway Show participated by five competitive and stunning pairs of model from the different departments wearing their school, business, and professional attire under student category and a special category for teachers wearing their best funky attires.

Meanwhile, in his welcome message, College President Dr. Clemelle L Montallana highligthed that a woman is a phenomenal human, a woman experiences are beyond veteran, a woman’s understanding is as deep as the ocean.

“Today as we celebrate women’s month let us not forget that we are nurtured love, nourished, and continuously being taking care of women, so for all the women in our lives. Happy Women’s Month!” Dr. Montallana added.

Gracing also the event and in representation of Municipal Mayor, Hon. Octavio J Traya Jr. was Mrs. Luz Concha K. Daganzo, MSWDO coordinator and a BOT member delivered a stirring inspirational message.

“To all ACCians let’s continue to recognize the value of women not only every March but let’s celebrate and value the significant role of women portrays in our society every day.” Daganzo said.

“To all of us here Happy Womens Month and congratulations again ACC for this fabulous culmination activity of Women’s Month.”, Daganzo ended his speech.

Moreover, out of the five pairs for the 2023 ACC Runway Show, first-ever crowned Mister and Miss Runway 2023′ are Mc Rheinzel Abarca and Rc Gweyn Argate who prevailed over other four pairs in the battle of grace and confidence.

The winning tandem also obtained the minor awards namely; Best in Uniform, Best in Business Attire, and Best in Professional Attire.

Additionally, competitors who came very close to winning the title were also acknowledged and awarded titles for their outstanding performance in the competition. These competitors are as follows: Divine Grace Joser and Jhon Ibo Capones of College of Arts, Sciences and Education(CASE)- 1st Runners-up, Joel Menguito of College of Hospitality Management and Entrepreneurship (COHME) and Christine Jane Hongo of College of Criminal Justice Education (CCJE) – 2nd Runners-up, Jhon Reymart Papong of CCJE and Vilma Sevillano of COHME- 3rd Runners-up, and lastly the 4th Runners-up are Michael Adtoon and Mary Joy Fulgencio of College of Information Technology Education (CITE).

Meanwhile, winners of Best in Funky Wear faculty edition were Ritche Deloria of ACC-SHS and Angelika Villamor of CASE.

As the celebration of the Women’s Month comes to an end, may we all be reminded to continuously strive to create an environment where everyone feels safe to try anything; where there’s no fear of judgment or discrimination because of the choices we make and the gender with which we identify.
