Dr. Montallana, Gallos present B.A.T.O.N capstone project in CHEd-AIM GALP

With high hopes and humility, ACC College President Dr. Clemelle L. Montallana, together with Office of Students Affairs and Services Director, Mr. Christopher Gallos, presented their Capstone project titled B.A.T.O.N (Building Achievers towards Opportunities and Nation Building) in the Commission on Higher Education (CHEd) and Asian Institute of Management (AIM) Global Academic Leadership Program (GALP) for LUC’s Cohort 4 via Zoom, on Thursday, June 8.

B.A.T.O.N is Abuyog Community College’s response towards the social issues such as underemployment, unemployment, and poverty and the likes. It is also a corporate strategy that will be employed to help Abuyog and other localities and cement the legacy of Abuyog Community College as a School of Choice in South Central Leyte.

In his presentation, Dr. Montallana emphasized that the B.A.T.O.N capstone project was inspired by the Waray term means response, and also alluded to the conductor who directs the orchestra in order to have a harmonious musical presentation.

Montallana also stated that the capstone project will implement the three major intervention plans namely; Pag-inoino, Rethink, Pagkiwa, Moving Towards Better Threshold, and Pag-bag-o, Change Implementation.

For the first major intervention plan, Pag-inoino, Introspection; will focus on curriculum rethinking that enhances freedom and microcredentaialing program that would entail possiblity of earning a living even for non-graduates. It will also employ job needs analysis to ensure that the training developed will also include relevant links to the content of the job.

The second intervention plan, Pagkiwa, Moving Towards Better Threshold will highlight trainings and refresher courses for faculty and students, as well as collaboration with Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA).

Lastly, Pag-bag-o, Change Implementation will be getting into adjusting instructions, facilities and others, it will be a trial run and the realization of BATON.

Participated by other academic leaders from other local university and colleges (LUCs) in the country, CHEd-AIM GALP was designed to empower them to transform LUC’s into powerful institutions that will expand the youth’s access to local and global opportunities through high-quality education.
