OSSEI wraps up campus journ training workshop by Steven Mark Parado
As Goethe, says, “Knowing is not enough; we must apply. Willing is not enough we must do.”
The Organization of Student Educators Services, Inc. (OSSEI) successfully wrapped up its three-day national training workshop on campus journalism held at Baguio Crown Legacy Hotel Baguio City, on Saturday, September 30, with a hopeful perspective that campus publication delegates will utilize the knowledge and wisdom obtained from the event as they advance their journalistic skills and to better serve their respective schools.
Starting the last day right, expert journalist of Manila Standard, Ms. Joyce Pañares discussed to campus journalists the essence of fighting fake news and the rise of advertorials. Ms. Pañares pointed out the crucial role journalists play in uncovering the truthful stories especially that artificial intelligence is on the loop.
Ms. Pañares further emphasized that in the era of disinformation, campus journalists should discover every possible means to write truthfully.
Meanwhile, the feedbacking and impression session on the various online and print publication output submitted by the delegates. This was facilitated by Prof. Ben Domingo Jr., Prof. Liana Barro and Mr. Melvin Gascon who also pointed out winnable tips for the publication staff to excel in their field.
Indeed, The Honeycomb Campus Media delegates were very thankful to OSSEI for the great learning opportunity. THC was also grateful to the ACC administration for the full support given to the team and to all benevolent individuals who willingly extended their resources to make this engagement more meaningful.
During her closing speech, OSSEI President, Dr. Bella Villanueva conveyed her appreciation and commendation to all the campus publication present, the organizers, and resource speakers for their commitment to make campus journalism at the campus level a flourishing one.
Finally, the three-day campus journalism training workshop has concluded. Congratulations to all the student journalists for making the said workshop a great success. Undoubtedly, the seminar was completed with the enthusiasm and commitment of the budding scribes to write for truth, justice, and independence.
