Mr. Alvin Advincula, The Honeycomb coordinator and Mr. John Paul Adtoon, The Honeycomb former Editor-in-chief successfully presented their research paper titled ” Narratives of Campus Publication Advisers in the Post-pandemic Times: Challenges, Adaptations and Student Engagement” during the Communication and Media Studies Conference (CMSC) 2023 at Lyceum of the Philippines University- Cavite on October 20.
Under the research conference sub-theme Communication Education, their paper captured the essence of resilience, innovation,and adaptability, shedding light on how campus publication advisers in the province of Leyte emerged as pivotal figures, navigating uncharted waters in sustaining the vibrancy and relevance of campus journalism especially during the post-pandemic era.
Moreover, the on-site gathering brought together 300 delegates from over 40 Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) offering communication and media studies programs.
The event was presented by the Philippine Association of Communication Educators (PACE) anchored with the theme, ” Communication and Media Education in the Time of AI: Values, Ethics, and Principles”.
This year’s theme explored how Artificial Intelligence (AI) is affecting the educational landscape and how it compels the community of scholars to re-think, re-examine, and innovate policies, strategies, and experiences to adapt to the ever-changing world.
In addition, the event was back-to-back with the student camp dubbed as PACE of the Future where communication students showcased their best practices, projects and programs in the various fields such as journalism, broadcast and new media.
Making the event more meaningful, invited keynote speakers who explained the opportunities for AI on the culture of, norms in, and expectations of learner-instructor interactions ever present, and the challenges it posed to the communication and media educators.
Resource speakers were Mr. Dominic Ligot, co-founder, Analytics Association of the Philippines, Dr. Hsuan Pei (Jason) Ho, assistant professor and director of Office of International Affairs at Hungkuang University, Taiwan.
Gracing also the event was the former PACE President, Dr. Crispin Maslog who led the launching of the PACE history book ” PACE Turning 50: A History of the Philippine Association of Communication Educators.”
Another highlight of the event was the induction of the PACE Board of Trustees (2023-2025) and announced as next years CMSC host, the Polytechnic University of the Philippines -Manila.
In his speech, PACE President, Mr. Mark Lester Chico, expressed his message of gratitude to the PACE BOT, to the host university-LPU Cavite, the attendees for their making the event a resounding success.
“I am grateful for your hard work and perseverance in serving our colleagues in the field and our students, the #PACEoftheFuture. Much of what we have achieved for the past couple of years is made possible because we worked together as one family. Nawa ay patuloy tayong magsama-sama at magtulong-tulong sa susunod na dalawang taon pa kasabay ng ating pagsalubong sa ating ika-50 anibersaryo. Mabuhay tayong lahat!”, Chico penned in his social media.
