A Decade of Memories: Remembering Yolanda

Ten years ago, the Philippines endured one of the most devastating natural disasters in its history. Typhoon Yolanda, known locally as “Haiyan,” left a trail of destruction in its wake, claiming thousands of lives, displacing communities, and testing the limits of human resilience. The scars of that fateful day still linger in the hearts and minds of those who survived.

A Spiritual Journey of Healing

The Eucharistic Mass served as a means of collective healing and reflection for the survivors and the community at large. The ceremony was a poignant reminder that amidst the physical and emotional wreckage left by Yolanda, faith has been a guiding light.

The mass was presided over by St. Francis Xavier Parish Priest Rev. Fr. Noel Abrenio and was attended by Abuyog Municipal Mayor Lemuel Gin K. Traya, other LGU officials and employees.

Joining also the solemn event was ACC faculty and staff led by College President, Dr. Clemelle L. Montallana.

Shortly after the mass, attendees proceed to the image of St. Francis Xavier at the LSM grounds for the ceremonial wreath laying and candle lighting. The candle lighting along with the recital of prayers is a significant action towards remembering and honoring thousands who perished on the dreadful day and an essential aspect of connecting to the souls of departed languishing in darkness through Christ’s eternal light.
