Celebrating Excellence: English Guild Spearheads Culminating Activity for 2023 EMC back-to-back with 89th NBW by Rogie Beringuel

In a grand culmination of language, literature and library information festivities, the 2023 English Month Celebration (EMC) and 89th National Book Week (NBW) came to a triumphant close with an unforgettable Culminating Activity and Awarding Ceremony held on Friday, December 1 at ACC gymnasium.

The month-long event was themed,”Language, Literature and Library Information in the Reel World of Artificial Intelligence and Social Media Influencers” aimed at emphasizing the richness of the language and its contribution to the world of literature especially in the era of technological innovations.

The event commenced with opening remarks by Dean of College of Arts Sciences and Education Dr. Domer P. Regis, who emphasized the richness of English language and its profound impact to the lives of English major students. Mrs. Annabelle Dela Rama, the Language and Literature Unit coordinator, followed with an inspiring message, stating, “Ladies and gentlemen, as we draw the curtains on this remarkable English Month intertwined with the 89th National Book Week, let us celebrate the power of words that have fueled our imagination, broadened our horizons, and connected us all.”

The highlight of the event was the short and sweet play, team building games and the awarding ceremony for various online contests, including photo essay, commercial adaptation, digital storytelling and educational Tiktok as well as the much anticipated English Guild Feast.

The Awarding Ceremony recognized the linguistic and literary prowess of English Guild Warriors representing their factions, namely; Team Amity The Peaceful, Team Candor The Honest, Team Dauntless The Brave, and Team Erudite The Intelligent.

Declared as this year’s Overall winner was Team Amity The Peaceful after bagging the most number of first place and Netizens Choice awards. Tailing next was Team Dauntless The Brave declared as first placer followed by Team Erudite The Intelligent on the second place and Team Candor The Honest came third place.

In her social media, Team Amity The Peaceful adviser, Ms. Apple Mae Hermosilla expressed her immense pride after their triumphant finish and reflected on the role she played to make the team clinch the top spot.

“I’ve long held the belief that a team free from undue pressure will inevitably shine, and my team has exemplified this. I simply encouraged them to relish the experience, form connections with unfamiliar faces, and emphasized that the ultimate value lies in lasting connections. Whether we emerged victorious or not becomes secondary; what truly matters is the enduring impact of the connections we’ve made.” Ms. Hermosilla stated.

Moreover, Mr. Alvin Advincula, English Guild adviser, delivered a closing remarks, encouraging everyone to inspire, enlighten and keep united through the magic of English language. “May the love for literature and language be a timeless journey for all. Happy 8th Year Anniversary English Guild and keep turning the pages of knowledge and embracing the beauty of English in our lives.” Advincula ended his speech.
