Uniting Minds, Cultivating Change: ACC Social Scire Hosts SocSci Days 2024

Igniting the spirit of unity and commitment, the Social Science Organization of Abuyog Community College hosted its two-day SocSci Days 2024 with the theme “United We Stand: Creating Connections, Cultivating Unity” at ACC Gymnasium and Business Incubation Facility (BIF) on March 15-16.
Participated in by the students from BSED Social Science which was divided into three teams namely, the MAYAN Empire, AZTEC Rulers, and Mighty INCA.
The two-day celebration was filled with academic competition such as interpretative dance, singing competition, debate competition, lesson planning, and team-building activities.
In his welcome message, Dr. Clemelle L. Montallana, College President, reminded the Social Science students to explore horizons, grab opportunities, and make a difference as they embarked on their college journey.
“As you embark on this journey called College Education, I would like to remind you that life isn’t easy. You are here exploring boundless horizons. Social Science is a course that opens our eyes to diverse perspectives. So in this phase or at this time, I would like you to realize that you could make a difference,” Dr. Montallana said.
Moreover, Jasper V. Dulosa, M.M, ACC’s Planning Officer-designate, gave an inspiring message to encourage young individuals to move forward together.
“We have a better future now because of what we do. Because we are creating networks, we are contributing unity. That is why in everything that we do, we move forward, and we do it together,” Dulosa said.
Meanwhile, another spectacle was the debate competition, with the theme, “Tackle Issues and Influence Change”. Using Parliamentary debating style which involves teams of two or more members debating a topic in a structured format that emphasizes persuasion, critical thinking, and effective communication. The debate was consists of multiple rounds, with teams arguing either for or against a given motion.
On the second day, invited speaker Ms. Siena M. Villote, AP and ESP teacher at Balowehay National High School, led a workshop on lesson planning and instructional preparation for Social Studies.
Ms. Villote emphasized the importance of equipping future educators with the skills to effectively organize and deliver content, optimize student engagement, cater to diverse learning needs, and achieve meaningful learning outcomes.
The two-day event concluded with the presentation of awards to winners across multiple competitions.
Mayan Empire secured first place, with the Aztec Rulers coming in second, and the Mighty Inca in third place.In the singing competition, the Mayan Empire claimed the top spot, followed by the Mighty Inca, and the Aztec Rulers.
In the debate competition, the Mighty Inca and the Aztec Rulers tied for first place, with the Mayan Empire in second place. Special awards for Best Speakers and Best Debaters were awarded to Fernando Cultura, from the Mayan Empire, and Adona Reas, from the Mighty Inca.
Subsequently, the announcement of the overall champion gained collective gasps and shocked reactions. Sharing the title of Grand Champion are the Mighty Inca and the Mayan Empire, with the Aztec Rulers standing as the first runner-up.
Spearheaded by Jemmel Carawana, SocSci President, and Dr. Junielito Espanto, Social Science Coordinator, the Social Science Organization committed their time to making the two-day event a success.
In his message, Dr. Espanto highlighted the collaboration made by the officers and members throughout the celebration.”I would like to extend my heartfelt congratulations and gratitude to the dedicated organizers, the officers, and members of the social studies organization of this school year 2023-2024. You have worked tirelessly behind the scenes to make this event a resounding success. Your commitment, passion, and hard work have not gone unnoticed, and we are truly grateful for your unwavering support,” Dr. Espanto said.
Finally, officially closing the two-day celebration was Ms. Carawana, who encouraged everyone to keep seeking knowledge, personal development, and to actively work towards making positive change.
“As we depart from this event, let us carry forward the spirit of inquiry and cooperation that has defined our time together. Let us continue to seek out opportunities for learning growth, and positive change in our communities and beyond,” Carawana noted.
