CRIMINOLOGY DAYS 2024 Wraps Up with Thrilling Sports Events, Awarding Ceremony

April 18-19, 2024- The highly anticipated Criminology Days 2024 concluded with an action-packed finale featuring a series of exhilarating sports events and the awarding ceremony.
Held simultaneously at the ACC annex campus , the event attracted criminology students, and faculty from the four competing factions.
Faction names were inspired by the Criminal Justice Education Icons namely; Calvin Hooker Goodard, Father of Forensic Ballistics (Faction 1);Johannes Purkinjie Father of Dactyloscopy( Faction 2); Henry Fox Talbot, Father of Modern Photography (Faction 3); and Albert Osborn, Father of Questioned Document (Faction 4), all eager to participate in and witness the diverse array of activities on offer.
Diverse Sports Lineup
On the second day featured a variety of sports, ranging from traditional athletic events like Basketball, Volleyball, Badminton, Sepak Takraw, for both and women catergory. While Chess, Scrabble and Dama for the board games and Mobile Legends competition for the E-sports.
These competitions allowed participants to showcase their athleticism, teamwork, and strategic skills, creating an atmosphere filled with energy and excitement.
Engagement Beyond the Classroom
The sports events provided an opportunity for criminology students and professionals to engage in activities outside the classroom, fostering camaraderie and collaboration among attendees.
The emphasis on sports highlighted the importance of physical fitness and teamwork within the field of criminology, promoting a healthy balance between academic pursuits and physical activity.
Highlights of the Sport Events
Moreover, the winning factions from the various sports competions are as follows:
Teams competed fiercely in a thrilling basketball tournament (Men’s Category) with the final match coming down to a nail-biting finish. The Faction 1 emerged victorious, displaying exceptional skill and teamwork, while Faction 3 was held as the 2nd placer, Faction 4 as 3rd Placer and Faction 2 as 4th placer, respectively.
Moreover in the Basketball Women’s Category, Faction 4 triumphantly snatched the 1st place, followed by Faction 3 as 2nd placer, Faction 2 as 3rd placer and Faction 1 as 4th placer.
Meanwhile, in the electrifying match of the Volleyball ( Men’s Category), Faction 1 showcased their mastery on the court, as they smash and block the ball tirelessly leading to victory, Faction 2 was then held as the 2nd placer, Faction 4 as 3rd placer and Faction 3 as 4th placer, respectively.
In the dramatic finish of the Volleyball Women’s Category, coming off as 1st Placer was the Faction 4, 2nd Placer was Faction 2, 3rd Placer was Faction 1 and 4th placer was the Faction 3.
Furthermore, Faction 3 successfully bagged the 1st Place after dominating the court in the thrilling match of Sepak Takraw( Men’s Category), Faction 1 as 2nd placer, Faction 2 as 3rd placer and Faction 4 as 4th placer.
For the Sepak Takraw Women’s Category, Faction 3 showcased pride and honor as they were hailed as the champions, followed by Faction 4 as 2nd Placer, Faction 2 as 3rd Placer and Faction 1 as 4th Placer, resepectively.
While in the Badminton (Men’s Single Category), Faction 3 showed passion and dominance as they victoriously bagged the 1st Place, while Faction 2 as 2nd Placer, Faction 1 as 3rd Placer and Faction 4 as 4th Placer.
For the Badminton Women’s Single Category, 1st Placer was Faction 2, 2nd Placer was Faction 1, 3rd Placer was Faction 4 and Faction 3 came off as 4th placer.
Additionally, in the Badminton Double’s Category, Faction 4 exhibited their exceptional dou-skills as they were announced as the 1st Placer, followed by Faction 3 as 2nd Placer, Faction 2 as 3rd Placer and Faction 1 as 4th Placer.
Meanwhile, teams displayed wit and talent in the various board games competition. After a nerve-wracking match on Chess Tournament (Men’s Category) Faction 4 was announced as the winner, followed by Faction 3 as 2nd Placer, Faction 2 as 3rd Placer and Faction 1 was reported as 4th placer.
Furthermore in the Chess Women’s Category, the 1st Placer was Faction 3, 2nd Placer was Faction 1, 3rd Placer was Faction 4 and 4th Placer was Faction 2, respectively.
On the other hand, winners from Dama (Men’s Category) was recognized, 1st Placer was Faction 3, followed by Faction 4 as the 2nd Placer, Faction 2 as 3rd Placer and Faction 1 as the 4th Placer. Also, in the Dama Women’s Category, Faction 4 was announced as the 1st placer, Faction 2 as 2nd Placer, Faction 1 as 3rd Placer and Faction 3 as 4th Placer.
Completing the set of winners for the board games was Scrabble (Men’s Category) wherein Faction 2 dominated the other teams and was reported as 1st Placer, followed by Faction 4 (2nd Placer), Faction 1 as 3rd Placer and Faction 3 as the 4th Placer.
And for the Scrabble (Women’s Category) there were only 3 competing factions (no entry for Faction 3) 1st Placer was Faction 1, 2nd Placer was Faction 2, 3rd Placer was Faction 4.
Furthermore, competing factions also showcased their profeciency in the Mobile Legends Tournament, Faction 2 dominated the virtual world and was reported as the champions, while Faction 4 as 2nd Placer, Faction 3 as 3rd placer and no entry for Faction 1.
Impressions from Participants
In an interview with selected participants expressed their thoughts about the different sporting events in celebration of the Crim Days 2024.
“Ang masasabi ko lang po lahat ng mga sumali ay nag enjoy, happy, at competitive, at kahit kapwa criminologists la an nagmumulay is ginpakita gihap nira an spirit of sportmanships ngan in every different games and sports that they play it give a profound impact sa amon po” Jay Ornopia, Crimebuster officer and Badminton facilitator quipped.
“Nafifeel ko adto nga experience kay fulfilling lalo na nanalo yong team namin . Actually, hindi po ako nag expect na ako po yong nagiging MVP kasi marami pa pong mas magaling pa sakin and I’m very thankful po adto na experience.” said Liza Asmolo, MVP, Basketball Women’s Category.
“Winning as a player, you need to find something to hold on to, something to motivate you and something to inspire you”, Ranelle Delgado, Slasher, Basketball Men’s Category explained.
Closing Ceremony
The closing ceremony marked the culmination of Criminology Days 2024, with awards and recognition presented to outstanding student-athletes and teams. The ceremony also included speeches from distinguished CCJE alumni emphasizing the significance of teamwork and physical fitness in the field of criminology.
As Criminology Days 2024 concluded, attendees expressed their satisfaction with the event’s success and looked forward to future editions. The finale’s sports events left a lasting impression, reinforcing the event’s reputation as a platform for building connections and celebrating the diverse talents within the criminology community.
