Abuyog Community College: Under CHED’s OIQAG Lens

In a significant move towards enhancing the quality of education and institutional recognition, the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), through the Office of Institutional Quality Assurance and Governance (OIQAG) recently conducted an on-site validation visit to Abuyog Community College (ACC) on July 26,2024.
The pivotal moment for the institution, emphasizing its commitment to excellence and continuous improvement was pursuant to CMO 32 series of 2006.
A Momentous Visit
The CHED OIQAG team, along with composite team validators, comprised of seasoned educators and administrators, was welcomed with open arms by the college’s faculty, staff, and students. The CHEd delegation includes Engr. Reyen M. Sabate, Chief Education Program Specialist and head of the evaluating team; Glenn Marco M. Antonio, Senior Education Program Specialist, Coordinator, and Governance Division; Hazel D. Mendoza, Attorney III, Legal and Legislative Service (LLS); Pharida Aurelia, Director II, CSC RO VIII; and Geselle Edriano, Assistant Division Chief–LGCDD, DILG RO VIII.
The opening program, held at Abuyog Hotel, featured a welcome message from the Executive Chairman of ACC Hon. Mayor Lemuel Traya, who expressed his gratitude to the validating team for conducting the inspection despite inclement weather conditions.
“Thank you very much po for coming. I know, may problema ngayon sa Manila because of the weather still, thankful ako na nandito kayo,” Hon. Mayor Traya expressed.
Following a brief meeting, the validating team proceeded to the ACC campus for the on-site inspection.
Showcasing Excellence
During the validation process, CHED officials toured the campus, inspecting classrooms, laboratories, libraries, and other essential facilities.
They also interacted with students and faculty, gaining firsthand insights into the learning environment and the academic culture at Abuyog Community College.
One of the highlights of the visit was a presentation on the college’s innovative programs and initiatives. These include community engagement projects, technological advancements in teaching, and a robust support system for student welfare.
The college’s emphasis on holistic development and practical skills training was particularly noted by the CHED team.
Feedback and Future Plans
The preliminary feedback from CHED was overwhelmingly positive. Engr. Sabate acknowledged the challenging task of validating the documents but thanked everyone for the visit was meticulously planned, showcasing the college’s facilities, academic programs, and various student services.
Engr. Sabate suggested areas for improvement, including future expansion plans for the institution’s facilities and the filling up of plantilla items.
He concluded by expressing gratitude to those who prepared the documents, which facilitated the identification of areas needing improvement.
“We are very thankful for those who prepared the documents because this are just the thing that we have noted for improvement of Abuyog Community College. As of now, based on the evaluation of the composite team, all of the areas of CMO 32 series of 2006 are complied by Abuyog Community College,” Sabate stated.
Furthermore, in his message, Dr. Clemelle L. Montallana, College President expressed his gratitude to the CHED OIQAG and reaffirmed ACC’s commitment to continuous progress.
“We really would like to say thank you, you break range, you gave up some perks and comforts of your own offices to be here with us. So, rest assured that we will continue to level up, and as sir Reyen has said, there must be a shown or marked progress henceforth, starting today. That is our commitment,” Dr. Montallana said.
