ACC Prepares Future Educators: Fourth-Year Students Embark on Pre-Service Field Study Orientation
by Rogie Beringuel

To prepare them for the real world of the teaching field, fourth-year Teacher Education students of Abuyog Community College (ACC) undergo a pre-service Field Study (FS) orientation at Putyukan san Abuyog, on October 15.

In attendance at the said orientation were Ma’am Olivia P. Manasis, Education Program Supervisor in Kindergarten (EPS), Dr. Gerry B. Ranes, EPS in TLE and TVL, the school principal, Cooperating Teachers (CT), and representatives from the different partner schools, along with Dr. Clemmelle L. Montallana, college president, Dr. Domer P. Regis, college dean of education, and FS students.

In an opening message, Dr. Montallana expressed the role that teachers play in this world. “The world is a better place because of teachers,” he said.

He also emphasized that Field Study is not just a simple tradition for “would-be” teachers but a way of learning and understanding things together.

The highlight of the FS orientation was the expert talks by Ma’am Manasis and Dr. Ranes on Personal Development and Visible Learning for Teachers.

Ma’am Manasis discussed the roles expected of both the pre-service teacher and the cooperating teacher in FS 1, 2, and the Teaching Internship of the students.

Meanwhile, Dr. Ranes tackled the Coaching and Mentoring Program and Personal Development during the Student Internship, where he emphasized the application of theories learned by the pre-service teacher in the institution and aligning them with teaching practice.

“… so that there will be alignment with the theories you have learned, you are now going to immerse yourself in the different schools,” he said.

In his closing message, Dr. Regis thanked the speakers for the insightful talks they rendered to the FS students. He also reminded the pre-service teachers of what it means to be a teacher. “Teachers, always remember, you shed light, you provide help to our learners, we eradicate ignorance,” he expressed.

After three years of building foundational knowledge in education theory, content areas, and instructional methods, the 267 fourth-year education students of ACC, coming from the different programs—namely; Bachelor of Elementary Education (BEED), Bachelor of Secondary Education (BSED) in Math, BSED in Social Studies, BSED in Science, and BSED in English—are now set to experience the world of teaching as pre-service teachers.
