Bridging Theory and Practice: A Transformative Field Study Journey for Abuyog Community College Pre-Service Teachers
by Rogie Beringuel
In partnership with local elementary and high schools in Abuyog, MacArthur, Javier and Mahaplag, the Abuyog Community College through its College of Arts, Sciences and Education (CASE) organized a field study deployment for pre-service teachers as part of their teacher-education training program.
This initiative aimed to immerse students in the dynamics of classroom management, lesson planning, and student engagement within a real school environment.
The deployment commenced on October 28 for the Bachelor of Elementary Education (BEEd) and on October 30 for the Bachelor of Secondary Education (BSED) with specialization in Science, Mathematics, Social Studies and English.
For the duration of the experiential learning course, each student teacher will be paired with a mentor teacher who will provide guidance and feedback, fostering a supportive learning environment.
In addition, during this period, the pre-service teachers will observe their mentors, assist in classroom activities, and gradually took on more teaching responsibilities.
They will also be involved in creating lesson plans, delivering lessons, and assessing students, allowing them to apply the theories they had learned in their college courses.
This field study course will leave a lasting impact on Abuyog Community College’s pre-service teachers, giving them a deeper sense of purpose and a clearer vision of their future roles as educators.
