English Guild, Library and Information Services Team Up for Double Celebration of Language and Literature by Jonalyn Eman
In a remarkable fusion of literature and language, the English Guild together with the Library Information Services Office of Abuyog Community College have joined forces to celebrate two significant events in the literary world- English Month and the 90th National Book Week. This double celebration was organized to inspire students and faculty offering a vibrant platform for learning and creativity.
On November 21, 2024, the lead organizers virtually opened their month-long celebration via live streaming at the official Facebook at English Guild of ACC.
Formally opening the virtual event was Dr. Clemelle L. Montallana, college president who extended his support and appreciation to the initiative of hosting the double celebration.
Bearing with the theme, “Uniting Voices Across Nations: Mastering the Art of English in Every Element” which aims to honor the rich tradition of the English language that is more than just a tool for communication—it is a bridge that connects diverse cultures, ideas, and aspirations across the globe.
Through various academic competitions participated by the four competing factions inspired the elemental spirits in the hit anime series “Avatar” namely, Earth Defenders, Aqua Guardians, Sky Nomads, and Flame Forgers.
Academic events exclusive for the BSEd English students were Bench Cheering Video, Edu-tok: Educational Tiktok, Movie Trailer Adaptation, Photo Essay, 1st Cosplay Runway Showdown and the much-awaited search for Mister and Miss English Guild 2024.
Parallel to the English Month celebrations, the 90th National Book Week provides an opportunity to appreciate written words with this year’s theme, “Read, Dream, Celebrate” which underscores the indispensable role of libraries and books in fostering a lifelong love of learning.
The National Book Week will feature academic tilts intended for all students are Digital Poster Making, Book-Face: A Photo Reading Advocacy and the Battle of the Brains: Digital Showdown (powered by Quizziz).
With its culmination on December 6, 2024, this collaborative effort between English Guild and the Library Information Services Office seek to offer a well-rounded celebration of both language and literature. By combining these two events, the organizing committee hoped to create an environment that fosters holistic understanding of the arts, encourages reading habits, and promotes the importance of both the English and books in everyday life.
“The collaboration promotes healthy learning environment, camaraderie, enjoyment and understanding of the complexities of language in the 21st century times.”, said Francis Allan Diola, a peace officer from the English Guild.
