𝗔𝗖𝗖𝗶𝗮𝗻𝘀, 𝗮𝗱𝗺𝗶𝗻 𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗻 𝗳𝗼𝗿𝘂𝗺 𝗼𝗻 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝟭.𝟱 𝗚𝗪𝗔 𝗽𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗰𝘆 By Iris Anne Oliveron

An engaging and clarifying dialogue unfolded at the Abuyog Community College gymnasium today, January 12, 2026, as freshmen students from BSCriminology, BEEd and BSEd gathered with ACC administrators and staff for the 2026 Students’ General Orientation.

Central to the discussions was the proposed 1.5 GWA for board programs, a policy that previously stirred conversations across local community social media page.

Dr. Clemelle L. Montallana emphasized the rationale behind the policy, its objectives in promoting academic excellence, and the shared responsibility of both the institution and its students in fostering a culture of understanding and solidarity.

A significant portion of the orientation was dedicated to a Q&A session, where students actively engaged, asking questions, and expressing their perspectives.

The open forum also allowed both sides to listen, reflect, and collaboratively explore the implications of the new policy.

Students were reminded that policies like the 1.5 GWA are part of broader efforts to maintain academic excellence and competitiveness, while the administration acknowledged the need for sensitivity, flexibility, and guidance in supporting students through changes.

The outcomes of today’s open dialogue will be formally presented to the Board of Trustees, ensuring that students’ voices are heard and considered in the decision-making process.
