Culture took center stage as BSED English sophomores of Abuyog Community College transformed their culminating activity in EL 109- Language Programs and Policies in a Multilingual Societies, held at the ACC Business Incubation Facility (BIF) on Thursday, April 23, 2026.

Under the emblazing theme โUnity Amidst Adversityโ, the event gathered 61 sophomores from sections A and E under the guidance of their instructor, Dr. Annabelle Dela Rama. Through striking runway presentations and compelling role-play performances, students bridged continents and historical eras, proving that language is more than communication, it is a powerful vessel of culture.
Section A brought global culture to life through a vibrant runway show. Students donned national costumes representing countries from Southeast Asia, Africa, and Europe, introducing themselves in the languages of their assigned nations.

Their creativity and confidence captivated the audience, with Ms. Jhanna Jacobe earning Best in Introduction and Best in Costume. While Europeโs group presentation also clinched Best in Group Performance.
Meanwhile, Section E impressed with a series of role-play performances dramatizing the evolution of Philippine language policy across historical periods.
Group 1 delivered a soulful portrayal of the Post-Colonial and Spanish eras. On the other hand, Group 2 staged an emotional performance of the American and Japanese periods and Group 3 entertained with a comedic take on the Post-Colonial era.
Group 1 emerged as champion, followed by Group 3 in second place and Group 2 in third. Also, Ms. Ma. Fe Tabayag was recognized as Best Actor for her outstanding performance.
As one of ther performer, for Ms. Rosemarie Amahan, the activity was more than just an academic requirement, it was way of improving her public speaking skills and deepening her understanding regarding the world’s diversity.
โThe culmination helped me become more confident in speaking in front of the crowd. I also became more appreciative of other countriesโ differences, including their language and culture”, Ms. Amahan said during a post-event interview.
Audience member Mr. Emman Olazo, a first-year BSED English student, shared how the event inspired him to realize the weight of being an English student.
โWatching them perform made me comprehend the very core and importance of my chosen program, ” Mr. Olazo said.
In the end, the culminating activity was not just a display of talentโit was a celebration of unity, a tribute to cultural richness, and a testament to the enduring power of language to bring people together.
