The ground trembled, not with disaster, but with discipline, as students, faculty, and staff of Abuyog Community College actively participated in the First Quarter Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED) on March 12, 2026, at 3:30 PM.
With the close monitoring and assistance by the Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office in collaboration with the collegeโs Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Committee led by Prof. Mark Castanas, the campus-wide exercise tested the preparedness and coordination of the academic community during simulated earthquake scenarios.

Participants followed the โDuck, Cover, and Holdโ protocol before proceeding to designated evacuation areas, including the flagpole grounds for those in the main campus and the open field near the evacuation gym for individuals in the CASE and CCJE buildings.
Moreover, emergency response teams then conducted a brief simulation on first-aid reinforcing crucial skills needed in an actual disaster.

Prof. Mark Castaรฑas, the School Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office coordinator emphasized the importance of remaining vigilant and calm, and highlighted measures to enhance the communityโs readiness for real earthquake emergencies.
The activity forms part of the nationwide initiative of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council to promote disaster awareness, readiness, and resilience among institutions and communities across the Philippines.
By participating in initiatives like the NSED, Abuyog Community College continues to strengthen its readiness and uphold its responsibility to protect the well-being of every member of its academic community.
