With the clock ticking down to the much-anticipated regional Local Colleges and Universities Athletic Association (LCUAA) VIII 2026, student-athletes of Abuyog Community College (ACC) have entered a critical phase of preparation, immersing themselves in a three-day Concentration Activity from April 15 to 17.

Spread across the ACC campus and nearby barangay gymnasiums, the initiative brings together more than 185 athletes from various sporting disciplines in what coaches describe as a decisive โno-distraction phase.โ

The training focuses on precision drills, game simulations, and mental conditioningโkey components aimed at sharpening the athletesโ competitive edge ahead of the regional meet set from April 19 to 22 in Ormoc City.
This intensive activity forms part of ACCโs broader strategy to ensure peak performance at the regional stage. In recent weeks, the institution has implemented adjusted academic arrangements and strengthened operational support systems, allowing student-athletes to fully concentrate on their training while maintaining academic continuity.

From the onset of the concentration activity, a heightened sense of discipline and urgency has been evident among participants. Coaches have maintained a hands-on approach, closely monitoring performance and delivering real-time feedback to fine-tune both individual skills and team dynamics.
For many athletes, the stakes have never been higher.
โPressured at the same time motivated kami, kay nagrisk an school nga mag in-house training,โ shared menโs volleyball team captain EJ Carl Verra. โMas motivated kami because we now have more time to prepare compared to our previous LCUAA experience.โ
The pressure is equally intense for ACCโs cultural dance team, which is set to compete in a newly introduced category this year.
โKnowing nga pioneering kami for the Cultural Dance Category, mas dumuroy talaga an pressure, amo mas grabe talaga an preparation namon,โ said team member Clarence Bohol, underscoring the teamโs determination to rise to the challenge.
LCUAA VIII 2026 will feature a wide array of competitions, including basketball, volleyball, badminton, athletics, arnis, sepak takraw, futsal, table tennis, and chess, alongside emerging events such as mobile gaming.
The regional event will also highlights cultural and performance-based categories such as hip-hop, dance sports, and the debut of the cultural dance category, as well as vocal contests and the prestigious search for Mr. and Ms. LCUAA.
As preparations enter their final stretch, ACC athletes step into the regional spotlight not just physically prepared, but mentally fortifiedโdriven by the pride of representation and a collective resolve to deliver when it matters most.
